From a young age I was always captivated by the prints and patterns that adorned the walls of the homes we lived in. New Zealand in the 70s and 80s was a nod to Europe, (especially the UK) and prints that were fashionable then would trickle slowly over to our sleepy shores.

Many homes were heavy with print, pattern and colour. I remember being transfixed by the impression different wallpapers and fabrics would create, the texture, print and colour. I would get lost in the fantasy of it all.

In my teens, I became interested in Fashion. My Diploma in Fashion Design in the early 90s was an introduction to the world of design. Hungry for adventure and the big city, I left home for the exciting shores of Sydney. Here I embarked on a Fashion adventure with a friend, creating hand screen printed dresses on his bedroom balcony in Potts Point with the Sydney skyline as our backdrop. Glebe and Bondi Markets were our shopfront at first, later stocking various boutiques throughout Paddington and Darlinghurst. It was here that I discovered that I could create beautiful imagery that people wanted to wear.

From Fashion Design emerged my Textile Design skills, and Melbourne was the backdrop of my 17 year Textile Design career. Before the days of computer aided design we hand painted artwork. Bed linen designs were sometimes over two metres long. The amazing designers I worked with in the studio mentored me in the long transition from artist to designer.

A much needed sea-change to the warm shores of Byron Bay and into Fine Art and Sculpture began my 40th year. Being co-founder of one of Byron’s finest Art and Sculpture Galleries was a bold addition to my creative repertoire. A myriad of some of Australia’s finest artists, sculptors and creatives became my world and pushed my skillset further into the creative realm.

With my accumulated design experience and a love of everything vintage  since I can remember, from Tretchikoff and Lynch Art Prints, Florence Broadhurst wallpapers, vintage lamps and collectible furniture, a theme started emerging. A collection of designs and beautiful things from throughout a lifetime. The prints and colours, fabrics and trinkets that shape and mould your world through the decades. Inspiration from nature, from fashion, from architecture, from poetry. With this in mind Comm de Nom was born.

We are all our own common denominator ... YOU are Comm de Nom.
